Another Slingers experience

Just came back from the Slingers' game at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, where after the game a friend suggested I blogged something about it.

As I'm not really a basketball man in heart, so to avoid any kind of embarrassment I think it would be a better option for me to blog my Slingers experience instead (although, I did a short one months ago).

I think the main difference of going to a basketball game and attending a local football match is the way how the product is promote, portray itself.

(Picture above) I read that hand-out like this or "program" (as they are called in England) aren't complimentary item and it's a revenue generator.

Once, I read that as it's offence to charge people for admission on Sunday to attend games in England, some clubs twisted their way and recouped their losses by selling program like this to earn some monies from the fans.

After all, some of these program, especially those featured significant matchs, are highly sought after by collectors.

I'm not sure if it's coming towards the end of the season, the stocks and choices at the Slingers ' merchandise booth at the North Entrance are running low. But I do hope the next season that choices and products will be made available, as the sport clubs must realized that merchandise is another huge income earner for the much-needed funds.

Just like at any SSC stadium, can drinks are not allowed into the Indoor Stadium, therefore can drink purchased must to be poured into plastic cup like this (pictured above) before entering the arena (mind you, it costs $3 for a can drink, no wonder people loathe the idea of having foods at games).

But it was a great experience catching a game of basketball inside the Indoor Stadium, not only because it's air-conditioned and the seats are well-maintained...

... and also the Slingers Girls' dance routines during the "time-out" and "breaks" are much dynamic (I'm sorry but that's my personal opinion on that) as compared to other I saw (maybe SAFFC's cheerleaders are closing up).

For the record, Singapore Slingers beat Indonesia's Satria Muda 87-68 in the ABL Playoff Game One.

1st Slingers' Game in TWO years....

It was such a long time I last watched a game of "live" basketball, as most of my peers know me as a "football" man and not a "hoop" man.

So after a two-year absence, I was back in Singapore Indoor Stadium, the home of the ABL's Singapore Slingers, to catch the island's sole professional cagers in action.

Just a short scribe on the match....

The Slingers dominated large part of the game with a huge 27-point margin after the first two-quarters over the visiting Satria Muda from Indonesia.

But the guests regrouped themselves after the half-time break and gave the home team a good account of themselves.

Unfortunate for them, the Indonesians paid the price for some poor finishing that was well-matched by the equally strong Slingers' defence in the first two quarters and ultimately paid the price for their defeat.
